Aug 13. MC RusAl has proposed a large-scale environmental upgrade program for NorNickel's enterprises and offered to help develop a feasibility study for this project. According to the aluminum maker's open letter to NorNickel's new CEO Vladimir Strzhalkovsky, "the feasibility study will be done free of charge". As NorNickel's shareholder, "MC RusAl is concerned about the environmental issues surrounding NorNickel's enterprises", the letter says. "According to data from state environmental authorities and international public organizations, the environmental situation at Norilsk is critical". "We have extensive practical experience in implementing such programs" - RusAl went on to say in its letter. The company includes an engineering and construction division which has independently worked out and implemented environmental upgrade of one of the world's largest aluminum smelters located in Krasnoyarsk, whose efficiency is confirmed by experts of the International Aluminum Institute. Similar projects are being carried out at four other of the company's enterprises.
